MEEP! (2023)

Meep! is a genre-bending sci-fi horror short about Jane Hart, a heartbroken woman whose life spirals after a traumatic betrayal. When she shoots an alien intruder in her kitchen, she makes a rash decision: nurse the creature back to health. But what begins as an act of compassion becomes something far stranger. As the alien evolves—taking on a beautiful, human-like form—Jane finds herself caught between grief, obsession, and something otherworldly that might just offer her a twisted second chance.

Stylish, surreal, and darkly funny, Meep! explores trauma, agency, and cosmic rebirth in a world where healing can take the strangest of shapes.

Starring: Chelsea Glass, Jonathan Cook, Kate Dailey, Jaye Starkes and Connor Teske

Trailer for Failsafe's debut feature: Velvicide (2025)

Written & Directed by Kenneth Perkins

When Velvet Stevens agrees to recount her harrowing abduction for a documentary crew, what begins as a controlled interview spirals into a haunting descent through memory, manipulation, and buried trauma. Months earlier, she was kidnapped by a masked sadist who forced her to choose between life and death—day after day—while chained to a giant metal safe inside a makeshift dungeon.

Now, as the cameras roll, Velvet relives the unspeakable… but she’s not alone. On the other end of her story is Callum, a reclusive suicide hotline operator who once answered her desperate call. Bound by a shared darkness and a dangerous past, Velvet and Callum must confront not only their own guilt—but the lingering presence of a man who may never have let them go.

Told through a bold fusion of documentary realism and psychological horror, Velvicide marks the feature directorial debut of Kenneth Perkins. With its layered structure, meta storytelling, and unnerving intimacy, the film explores survivorhood, control, and the stories we tell ourselves to stay alive.

Starring: Gea Rose Henry, JD Starnes, Jon Devlin, John Grove and Dorothy Hadley Joly

"LUX" (2023)

Written by Kenneth Perkins | Concept by Adam Cowart

On what should be the happiest night of their lives, a newlywed couple’s joyride through a backwoods town takes a dark detour. Stranded with a flat tire, they encounter two sinister locals whose southern charm quickly turns threatening. As a violent nightmare unfolds, an otherworldly force emerges from the forest — a glowing, almost angelic entity — bringing with it a terrifying form of retribution. Gritty, poetic, and soaked in dread, LUX is a raw and visually striking descent into backwoods horror where justice is delivered in a blaze of alien light.

Starring: Sarah Massey, Cody Curtis, Jon Devlin, Caleb Ridgeway and Adam Cowart

Zepotha (2023)

πŸ•Έ About the Contest

The Zepotha phenomenon began as a viral TikTok horror trend created by content creator Emily Jeffri, who encouraged the internet to collectively pretend that a nonexistent 1980s horror film named Zepotha was real. The mass participation turned into an elaborate experiment in collaborative fiction—generating fake posters, characters, and lore.

Building on that viral momentum, Jeffri launched an open film contest: a global challenge to create the “original” Zepotha movie that could officially claim the canon of the legend. The winner would be crowned as the definitive version—the true Zepotha film in the eyes of the internet.

Out of hundreds of submissions, I think we finished 6th. Here's the final product.

πŸŽ₯ Our Entry: ZEPOTHA

In our horror-thriller entry, Zepotha, five teenagers sneak away for a weekend of drinking at an old cabin once owned by a reclusive uncle. What starts as a typical teen party spirals into supernatural madness when they drunkenly read from an ancient occult book, accidentally summoning a sinister entity named Zepotha through a haunted Teddy Ruxpin.

As possessions, betrayals, and shocking secrets unfold—including a missing sister, a closeted affair, and a deadly obsession—each teen is forced to confront their past. With nods to Evil Dead, The Exorcist, and The Shining, the film is a meta-slasher wrapped in ’80s nostalgia, but with a modern psychological core.

Ultimately, our film becomes a commentary on horror fandom, trauma, and the seductive danger of wanting to be remembered—at any cost.

πŸ† Why It Stands Out
• Combines viral internet lore with a fully fleshed-out narrative.
• Pays homage to vintage horror while subverting genre tropes.
• Incorporates Zepotha’s themes of identity, memory, and myth-making.
• Features a chilling twist involving betrayal, found footage elements, and a demonic children’s toy.

Cherry (2023)

Cherry is one of my favorite "short" shorts clocking in at a whopping 4:34!

One night,  Rachael Perkins (my wife), Adam Cowart, Grant Brake and Whitley Long decided the five of us would make a film after a steak dinner. The result, is this crazy concoction of insanity, a revolving children's joke and the repercussions of crossing the wrong woman.

Who needs a crew or preproduction when you have a fun little script and a drive to create? I present to you: My wife at her finest -- with a CHERRY on top!

Experience edgy, raw, visceral filmmaking

I would describe the style of my films as edgy, raw, and visceral. I'm incredibly proud of "Meep!" and my new feature "Velvicide," because they are larger bodies of work where a small community came together to bring them to life! And I love the stories they tell!
